Professor of Computer Science, Department of Information Engineering (DEI), University of Padova, Italy. Group leader of the Information Management Systems (IMS) Research Group of the Department.
Permanent Member of the Galilean Academy, Class of Mathematical and Natural Sciences.

Chair for the mandate from 2009 to 2012 of the Steering Committee of the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries (TPDL).
Member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal on Digital Libraries, Springer-Verlag.
Member for many years of the Editorial boards of Information Processing and Management and Information Retrieval journals.
Member of the Board of the Italian association for digital humanities and digital culture (AIUCD) (2011-2014).
Member of the evaluation team of experts for the Industrial and Information Engineering area of the Italian Research Assessment Exercise (VQR 2004-2010) performed by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR) from December 2011 to July 2013.
She has designed and launched in 1990 the European Summer School in Information Retrieval (ESSIR).
She has designed and launched in 2005, together with Costantino Thanos and other Italian experts, the Italian Research Conference on Digital Library Systems (IRCDL) that has been organised yearly and which is attended by the Italian research community of digital libraries and information retrieval.
She is and has been a member of programme committees of relevant conferences and events, among those of ACM SIGIR, CIKM, ECDL, TPDL, ACM/IEEE JCDL, ICADL, CoLIS, ECIR. EDBT.

PREFORMA: PREservation FORMAts for culture information/e-archives, Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) project started on January 1st, 2014, and co-funded by the European Commission under its FP7-ICT Programme.

Digital information infrastructures, digital libraries, digital library management systems, digital library architectures, information retrieval, search engines, analysis of log data in digital libraries and search engines, annotation of digital contents, Web link analysis for IR, design and development of advanced services for archives and digital libraries.
