In this paper we will describe a system for recognizing people and objects, based on the acquisition and elaboration of 3D data. The system consists of four parts: 1. acquisition of an implicit representation of 3D data (phase image); 2. reconstruction of the explicit 3D face (XYZ surface); 3. extraction of significant features; 4. classification and recognition of the face, and identification of the person. A prototype of the system has been set up, and is being experimented. The results of an experiment performed on a database of a significant number of people will be presented and discussed.
