Facilities of QEL
In the following there is a list of some the facilities available at the
QEL. They are generally used to perform experimental activity, as described
in the activities
section. For any information about this instrumentation and for its possible
use, please contact someone of the staff
.
UV,EUV and soft X-ray facilities:
- High vacuum chamber of 1 m3, equipped with both turbomolecular
and cryogenic pumps, for flight model tests; it was used in the past, in collaboration
with ALENIA SPAZIO, for testing the spectrograph of UVCS/SOHO.
- High vacuum chamber equipped for reflectometry measurements in the
2-20 nm spectral range.
- Normal incidence monochromator for generating monochromatic beams
in the 30-200 nm spectral range.
- Grazing incidence monochromator for generating monochromatic beams
in the 1-30 nm spectral range.
- High vacuum 1 meter normal incidence EUV spectrograph, equipped to
work at two different angles of incidence.
- Ultra high vacuum system to test open photon counting detectors.
- Facility for absolute quantum efficiency (by means of NIST calibrated
VUV photodiode), reflectometry and transmission measurements in the 30-250
nm.
- Facility for absorption spectra measurements in grazing incidence
spectral region, utilizing 1 GW ruby laser.
- Lead-shielded camera certified for measurements with X-ray sources
up to 100 kV.
- Nd-YAG laser, Q-switched, with 2 GW power, dedicated to laser-produced-plasma
generation, as high brightness source in the soft X-ray spectral range.
Clean room:
- M3.5/M4.5 (class 10000/100) clean room, 35 m2 area, controlled
in temperature and humidity
- laminar flux bench (class 100)
- active optical bench 1.25 m X 2.5 m (class 100)
- Zygo interferometer
Sources:
- VUV deuterium lamp
- Hollow cathode source for the 20-200 nm spectral region.
- Microfocus X-ray source with different anodes for the 0.1-25 nm spectral
region.
- Various UV spectral lamps (cadmium, zinc, mercury).
- X-ray source, 60kV, 50 mA
Detectors:
- MAMA type photon counting detector for the 2-250 nm range with 1024
x 256 pixels.
- Delay-line photon-counting detector for the EUV spectral region.
- Channeltron detectors both in analog and in photon-counting mode.
- Cooled back-illuminated CCD detectors (scientific-grade, low-scan
operation) 512 X 512 e 1340 X 1300 with sensitivity from near IR to X-ray.
- Intensified CCD detector equipped with the system of acquisition and
image analysis.
- Intensified photodiode detector.
- NIST calibrated photodiodes for the 5-300 nm spectral region.
- Silicon calibrated photodiodes for the 0.1-30 nm region.
- XUV intensifier
Lasers:
- Nd: YAG, pulsed 12 ns 20 J
- Nd: YAG, pulsed 8 ns 300 mJ
- Nd: YAG, pulsed 120 micros 2 J
- Nd:YAG, continuous/Q-switched 20 kHz - for laser marking
- CO2, 100 W
- Ar, 10 W, multiple/single line, multiple/single longitudinal mode
- KrF, 248 nm 20 ns 600 mJ 50 Hz
- N2, 337 nm 3 ns 150 microJ 20 Hz
- ruby laser, 15 ns 10 J
- HeNe, red and green 1/20 mW
- laser diodes, 0.5/2 mW
Various:
- Keithley electrometer with 0.1 fA sensitivity
- Quadrupole for analysis of residual gases in vacuum
