Curriculum vitae et studiorum

Piergiorgio Nicolosi was born in 1951. In 1975 he received his degree in Physics from the University of Padua. In the period 1976-1979 he had a Fellowship of the Italian National Council of Research ( CNR ). In 1979-1981 he was Researcher of the Italian National Council of Research at the Center for the Study of Ionized Gases. In 1981-1988 he was University researcher at Department of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Padua. Since 1988 he has been Associate Professor of Quantum Electronics at the Department of Electronics and Informatics of the same University.

He has worked mainly in the fields of plasma spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy, plasma diagnostics, spectroscopic instrumentation both for laboratory and space applications. In particular he studied the interaction of laser beams with matter, developing spectroscopic diagnostic techniques for the study of laser-produced plasmas. He has developed a new absorption spectroscopy experiment for the measurement of oscillator strength and photoionization cross-sections of ionized species. He is partecipating as responsible of his research group to a E.C. network for research on atomic spectroscopy, with several European laboratories and institutions. He participated in the development of new spectroscopic instruments, like EUV stigmatic spectrographs, and new detectors for the EUV spectral range. He has been instrument scientists of the italian section, with the responsibility of the integration, alignment and test of the spectrometer, in the space program UVCS (Ultraviolet Coronagraph Spectrometer) for the SOHO Mission of ESA (European Space Agency) and NASA .

He is member of the Optical Society of America . He is author of over 70 publications in related fields.
