Curriculum and activities:

Born in Padua (Italy) on December the 18th 1965, I attended in this town both primary and secondary schools, following grammar and classical studies. In 1984, when it was time to engage in higher learning, I enrolled in the Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Padua. My graduation thesis was about 'Numerical Modelling of Directional Couplers', a simulation through computers of optical devices which took me more than one year of hard work, but brought me a grant from S.A.I.F.O., a high tech corporation dealing with optical fibres, and a final academic degree with the maximum counts of praise (110/110 summa cum laude) on December the 11th 1989. Before graduating, also won a scholarship which allowed me to attend, in summer 1989, a technical stage SIP at the school of higher studies 'G. Reiss Romoli' in l' Aquila (Italy). The desire to search into themes linked with what I had studied during the last period spent at the university induced me, after serving 15 months in the army as an artillery officer (17 April 1990 - 17 July 1991), to apply for a post in the doctorate course. I was lucky: I obtained it in October 1990 and so had the opportunity of beginning my scientific career. During the doctorate period I have been carrying on some interesting research work on nonlinear optical devices whose first results have appeared in review articles and have been presented in congresses. In May 1992, I was admitted at a seminar held in Turin (Italy) by the European School on Integrated Optics Devices. In March 1993 I gave a talk at the Integrated Photonics Research congress, in Palm Springs, California. In October 1993 I won a grant of the Council National Research for 'Photonics for telecommunications' area. On September the 15th 1994 I took the Doctorate degree with a thesis about 'Analysis and modelling of photonic nonlinear devices with application to optical switching'. In March 1995 I won a Post-Doctorate grant in the field of nonlinear optics nearby the Dept. of Electronics and Informatics of Padua University. Through academic years 94/95-97/98 I thought 'Electromagnetics fields' and 'Electrotechnics' at Udine University as visiting Professor. In 1998, after winning a public competition, I was enrolled as assistant Professor of 'Electromagnetics Fields' (ING-INF/02 area) nearby the Dept. of Electronics and Informatics of Padova University. The research activity has resulted, until now, in 81 papers of which 32 on international reviews and 49 in proceedings of national and international conventions.
