me Federico Avanzini is Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padova, with the CSC-Sound and Music Computing Group.
He received the piano ("Diploma") degree from the Conservatory of Milano in 1995, the master ("Laurea") degree (cum laude) in physics from the University of Milano in 1997, the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the university of Padova in 2002. From January to June 2001 he has been visiting researcher at the Lab. of Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing, Helsinki University of Technology. From March 2002 to December 2004 he has been post-doc researcher at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padova. From January 2005 to May 2015 he has been Assistant Professor ("Ricercatore" and "Professore Aggregato") in the same department. His main research interests concern algorithms for sound synthesis and processing, multimedia systems, non-speech sound in human-computer interfaces, data sonification.
He has been key researcher in numerous european projects (FP5, FP6) and national projects as well as industry funded projects. Since 2006 he has been principal investigator of (i) research projects of the University of Padova (ii) industrial projects, and (iii) EU projects, namely HAPTIFEEL (Playing by feeling: an investigation of the role of haptic cues in the perceived quality of a musical instrument, H2020 Marie Curie IF), and DREAM (Digital Re-working Re-appropriation of Electroacoustic Music, Culture2007). He is the Conference Coordinator in the permanent Steering Committee of the Sound & Music Computing Conference and Summer School, and he is the Vice President of the Italian Music Informatics Association (AIMI).
He has authored about 150 publications on peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. He serves on a regular basis as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals and research projects. He has served in numerous conference program committees and editorial committees. He was the General Chair of the 2011 International Conference on Sound and Music Computing. He is Associate Editor for the international journal Acta Acustica united with Acustica.
Since 2005 has has been main instructor for the following courses: Fundamentals of Computer Science 1" (2005-2008, for the undergraduate degrees of the Information Engineering area); "Sound and Music Computing" (2008-2010) for the master degrees of the Information Engineering area); Fundamentals of Computer Science" (2011-today, for the undergraduate degrees of the Information Engineering area). Before 2005 he has been teaching assistant for several courses of Information Engineering area (University of Padova, University of Milano Bicocca, University "Ca' Foscari" of Venice).
