Giovanni Sparacino

Giovanni Sparacino was born in Pordenone, Italy, on November 11, 1967. He received the Doctoral degree (Laurea) in Electronics Engineering cum laude from the University of Padova in 1992 and the PhD (Dottorato di Ricerca) in Biomedical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1996.

From January 1997 to December 1998 he was enrolled as a Research Engineer at the Department of Audiology and Phoniatrics of the University of Padova. In December 1998 he joined the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padova as a Research Scientist (Ricercatore) of Biomedical Engineering. From January 2005 to March 2019 he was Associate Professor (Professore Associato), while, since April 2019 he has been Full Professor (Professore Ordinario) of Biomedical Engineering at the same Department.

He presently serves as Deputy Chair of the Department of Information Engineering and Vice Coordinator of the PhD School in Information Engineering

His scientific interests include deconvolution and parameter estimation techniques for the study of physiological systems, linear and nonlinear biological time-series analysis, estimation of evoked potentials (single-trial, improved averaging, steady-state responses), smart continuous glucose monitoring (calibration, denoising and prediction) for diabetes management. On these topics, he published more than 110 papers in journals indexed in WoS/Scopus and tens of other contributions in books and conference proceedings.

He has contributed to several funded by MIUR-MURST, EU, and NIH and he has served as reviewer for several international journals. He presently coordinates the Padova unit in the EU - IMI2 project Hypo-RESOLVE

Since academic year 2004-2005 he has been in charge of teaching Medical Informatics for the Laurea Magistrale degree (MS) in Bioengineering. Since academic year 2006-2007, he has delivered also the course entitled Analysis of Biological Data for the Laurea Magistrale degree (MS) in Bioengineering.

In the past he taught courses on Biomedical Engineering, Informatics, Medical Informatics and Biomedical Signal Processing in several curricula of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Padova from 1997-98 to 2010-2011,  the course Modelling of Physiological Systems for the European Postgraduate Course on Biomedical Engineering (hosted at the University of Patras, Greece) in 1999-2000, the course Medical Informatics for the Diploma (B.S.) degree in  Biomedical Engineering at the University of Padova in 1999-2000 and the course Biomedical Signal Processing for the Diploma degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Padova in 2002-2003.
