Descrizione:

JPEG2000 is the most recent international standard for still image compression, produced by ISO/IEC working group JTC1/SC29/WG1, which is commonly known as JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group).ᅠ The JPEG2000 algorithm, embodied by IS 15444-1 is fundamentally different from the earlier JPEG algorithm, imparting the new standard with higher compression efficiency and, most significantly, enhanced flexibility for distribution of and interaction with the compressed content.
In this talk, the speaker will summarize the most important features of the new standard, shedding light on the development of ideas and the motivation for specific decisions which were made during the standardization process.
The speaker will provide valuable insight into complexity, compression performance and random accessibility attributes of the JPEG2000 standard. Some time will be devoted to a discussion of subsequent parts to the standard.ᅠ Particular attention will be given to JPEG2000 Part 9 (JPIP), which is concerned with the interactive distribution of JPEG2000 imagery.
The speaker will provide demonstrations and a discussion of applications for interactive imaging with JPEG2000. As a precurser to the more general discussion of JPEG2000 and its applications, the speaker will provide a technical introduction to relevant compression theory and the key elements of the EBCOT algorithm which lies at the heart of JPEG2000.
