The MetaCamera project aims to investigate and implement the real-time handling of wide bandwidth picture content from the high resolution, high frame rate cameras that will be demanded for future D-film, E-cinema and broadcast applications. In the digital cinema world the main problem is to manage a lot of information in real-time, and the question `What is the best way to reduce these data?` is currently without answer, mainly because there is not a unique solution. The MetaCamera consortium partners agreed on a general scheme, where the basic functions of the work flow are included. The role of our department was to develop this data-flow and justify each functional block and its position. Furthermore we selected the best lossy to lossless compression scheme and we developed an high-quality colour reconstruction algorithm.
