IMPORTANT: the username for the authentication HAS NO @dei.unipd.it

It is only possible a secure connection with STARTTLS or SSL or TLS

Recommended configuration

Incoming: mail.dei.unipd.it 143 IMAP4  STARTTLS

Outgoing: mail.dei.unipd.it 587 SMTP STARTTLS

It is possible to send emails with our mail server just after having enabled on the client the authentication (normal password not encrypted) on a secure connection STARTTLS/SSL (encrypted).

MAXIMUM SIZE FOR MESSAGES AND ATTACHMENTS

The current limit is 27 MB (26214400 bytes), but please be aware that once a file is attached it is codified to be transmitted and this can cause an increment of the message size of about 30%.

It is therefore possible to attach and receive one or more files for a total of about 20 MB. Other mail servers in the world could have a lower limit and if the limit is exceeded the sender receives an error message.

MAIL QUOTA

Space occupied by the incoming mail and folders with messages remotely archived on the server is limited to a certain quota.

Students currently have 1 GB.

Department staff usually have 5 GB, but an increase of the quota can be requested at any moment via ticket to the IT service with our helpdesk.
