DC/PhD position available

Dal 31.07.2026 al 30.09.2026

The BESCAPE “Boosting Europe’s Space Competitiveness through Advanced Power Electronics” project (HORIZON-MSCA-2025-DN-JD) is looking for 1 (ONE) doctoral candidate – DC (40 months/full-time position) as part of the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie, Doctoral Networks - Joint Doctorates - G.A. n. 101312786.

One DC/PhD position is available at the University of Padova-UNIPD (Italy), as part of the BESCAPE consortium. The position is open to highly motivated doctoral candidates with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related disciplines. The job offer details the eligibility criteria and required skills and experience.

The research topic of the position is as follows: DC5 -  Innovative digital control of DC/DC converters for adaptive load transient response.

Objectives: This research line focuses on digital control of multi-phase DC-DC converters for the space market, aiming at high dynamic response, non-linear control actions, and self-tuning capabilities. The current trend in powering AI processors involves the use of many interleaved converter phases (16+), variable-frequency operation, and non-linear control to handle step load changes. The DC will develop digital control solutions that can minimize control delays, adapt to variable frequency operations, ensure accurate current sharing and controls conducted emission of the power conversion.

Secondments: 6 months at the University of Twente-UT (Netherlands) and 3 months at Leonardo (Italy).
At the University of Padova, the successful candidate will carry out the research/training within the Department of Information Engineering under the primary guidance of Professor Simone Buso. The successful candidate will obtain a joint doctoral degree awarded by UNIPD and UT. The duration of the PhD Programme is 3 years.
The DC is expected to join the University of Padova between January and September 2027.
