Computer engineering for music and multimedia

Research activities:

Research activities:

  • Physically-based sound modeling and synthesis, by means of accurate and numerical simulations of sound-producing physical systems, with a focus on non-linear behaviors and interactivity.
  • Development of haptic-audio rendering architectures for non-visual virtual environments, applications to interfaces for orientation and mobility learning of visually-impaired users.
  • Development of multimodal interactive environments for technology-assisted learning.
  • Design of auditory displays for technology-assisted motor rehabilitation.

Computational models for expression communication can contribute to the definition of innovative human-computer interfaces, based on devices capable of understanding and responding to the user’s affective state and behavior.

Research activities:

  • Multi-sensory interfaces for describing expressive music qualities
  • Automatic recognition of expressive intentions for access to music content
  • Algorithms for automatic rendering of expressive music performances
